Leap Day Knitting! We had a blast at the Women's Club in St. Michaels. Here are some of our smiles:)

Stella purse! Kathy enjoyed Willie's cabled purse class and is well on her way to completing her Christmas knitting.

February 2008 - We enjoyed a great "Grandmother - Grandaughter class" this month. Willie, Marnie, and Josie had a blast with Benita and Beryl. Josie and Beryl were two peas in a pod and enjoyed knitting and brushing their matching American Girl dolls hair.
Beryl gets some tips from Willie.

Dec 13, 2007 - A great bag
Our friend Carol Cohen finished her felted Lucy Bag, and it is too cute, she used the Cascade 220 yarn and she tells me it only took one cycle through the washer. I love the bag Carol, thanks for sharing.

Dec 12, 2007 - Gifts from Grandma times 3 Elaine Masso knits for her granddaughters, all three of them. I thought you might like to see a few samples of her beautiful work. She has promised more photos soon.

Dec 1, 2007 - Gifts from Great Grandma
I find it hard to believe that Mary Kain is a great grandmother, but I have the photos to prove it. This pretty girl is her great grand-daughter Rachel. Mary just returned from a visit to North Carolina and you can see the hat and mittens were a big hit. I wonder what Rachel's favorite color could be?
I love the Butterfly Button on the hat!

More project photos to share
These great pillows were made by Debbie Fry. I asked her to send me the photos because it really is inspiring to see what other people are making. Here is what she had to say, "Yes by all means put it on the website. I love being motivated to make things when I see other projects people have made and if this motivates people to knit I'd love it. Suzanna got me started knitting this past summer. I did knit as a teenager (some 30 years ago - although I never finished or accomplished anything). The yarn I used for the pillow was Lamb's Pride that I bought from your store if anyone wants to know.I also just finished the attached pillow using Encore yarn. It wasn't as challenging as the herringbone pillow, but was still a lot fun. Right now I'm trying to get a few scarves knitted for Christmas presents, and will tackle a blanket very soon.

The next two photos are from Nancy Knowles and Brenda Stone. Nancy's granddaughter Marika is wearing the dress she made for her and Brenda's grandson is wearing the Truck Sweater she made for him. Thanks to both Grandmas for sharing the photos with us.

Mary Poncho - Many of you will recognize this poncho from the model in the shop. It is made with Mulberry Silk. The one being worn in the picture was knitted by Beverly Johnson, who is Willie’s sister. This is a nice pattern but Beverly took it one step further by adding the long fringe. I think it makes the wrap very elegant. Thanks Bev for sharing the photo.

How beautiful is this?
One of our favorite knitters, Marie Zinninger, made these outfits for 3 beautiful grand-daughters. The tops are from a Knitty pattern, (which you can find here: http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTmonica.html). The skirts were made by hand, yes, I said, by hand, no sewing machine. There is no love, like "Grandma Love". Marie used Brown Sheep for the body and some Blue Heron Rayon Metallic for the Ruffle.

Anniversary Gift
This beautiful throw was made by Elaine Masso for her sister. The occasion was her sister's 50th wedding anniversary. Elaine used yarn from her stash as well as some she bought from the shop to create a beautiful combination of yarns. She was knitting with 5 and 6 strands at a time on size 35 needles. There are 50 tufts of yarn scattered on one side. One tuft for each year of married life.

We have another photo to share with you. This beautiful poncho was made by one of our favorite knitters, Nancy Knowles. The pattern is from a Laine Du Nord book and can be made as a poncho or a shawl. Nancy made her poncho with the Blue Heron Raspberry Beaded Rayon yarn. The color is just beautiful and you can see how nicely it drapes. This poncho could be made from many different yarns. Great job Nancy, thank you for sharing.

The latest project from my favorite student, John, is a baby sweater for our nephew Lucas who lives in Detroit. John used the Encore DK yarn for this sweater. If he were to make it again he said he would use the Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino or maybe the Sublime. John did all the knitting, I sewed the sleeves, did the button loops and duplicate stitched the fish. I think he is happy with his first sweater and he learned a lot of new knitting skills in the process.

I have another photo of the popular Crayon Box Sweater to share with you. This one was done by Brenda Stone and you can see it turned out just lovely. Brenda said the next one she does will probably have another row of squares to make it just a little bit longer.

Four more Guidepost Sweaters to show you, from Carol Kilbourn, Ruth Seeley and one lady who did not leave her name. They are such great sweaters, I know there are four kids who will be thrilled to receive them. Thanks to all of you for taking part in this program.

This is a great felted hat by another one of our talented customers, Carol Yore. Carol used the Debbie Bliss Donegal Tweed yarn to make this hat. This is a good example of how different a yarn can look once it is felted. She combined the Chunky Tweed with the Aran Tweed. Debbie Bliss Donegal Chunky Tweed
And now, with great pride, I present the work of my very favorite student, John Robinson. OK, he is my husband but I won't let that color my judgement. After 36 years of saying no to my repeated attempts to teach him to knit he finally decided he would give it a try.I give you his first two projects. The first is a garter stitch scarf made with Brown Sheep Burly Spun. The second is a baby hat made on circular needles holding two strands of encore DK yarn. I do believe he has that common illness that all of you have experienced at one time or another, "Knitting Fever"!

If you love great Knitting Bags you will enjoy this one. Ann Hock used her left over yarns to create her first felted project. It turned out just beautiful and I know she had a great time making it. I forsee more felting in her future. With her artist eye and sense of style I know they will be lovely.

One of our favorite knitters is Bonnie Foxwell and I wanted to show you a couple
of the latest sweaters that she has made. Bonnie is a fan of Debbie Bliss
and these are made from
Cashmerino Astrakhan
60% Wool, 30% Microfiber, 10% Cashmere

Guidepost Sweater Project
We are closing in on the finish line for our Knitting For Kids project here at Frivolous Fibers. If you recall our goal was "30 By Thanksgiving", here it is Nov 27th and we have received 74 sweaters. I thought it might be nice to show you a few of the beautiful sweaters that our knitters and crocheters have donated to the cause. We also want to thank Pixel, Post & Print of St. Michaels for providing free copies of the pattern. They gave 100 copies for the first printing and we went back to them 3 times. Each time there was no charge!

We want to share with you some of our customers successes!
Here is Gina Kotowski modeling the beautiful Crayon Box Sweater she made in our first
Crayon Box Sweater Class.
Take a look at these beautiful bags made by our friend Myra Goldeiger -

Bags are the hot item, look at this beautiful bag made by Penny Albertine for her daughter-in-laws wedding, what a beautiful gift. Penny used Debbie Bliss Ivory colored Pure Silk yarn and a lace pattern from Interweave Knits and the finishing touch was Swarovski Crystals.

Take a look at this great bag made by one of our favorite Annapolis customers, Penny Albertine. This looks just like the $200 bags you find at Nordstroms!
